Trip FAQs

Each year, CCSC Sports hosts organized trips to the mountains for skiing, snowboarding, and enjoying time in the snow with our community as well as summer trips to the Sacramento Delta for waterskiing and an annual bike & barge trip. We handle transportation, lodging, and logistics so you can focus on various activities, relaxing, and having fun. Whether it’s your first trip or a seasonal tradition, our trips make getting to the fun simple and social.

FAQs: Mammoth Trips by Bus from LA

How does the lodging work if I am joining the trip solo?
Most of our trip participants are solo, so you are in good company.  Participants are assigned to either a spot in a 9-person condo-style room or a two-person hotel-style room at the Mammoth Mountain Inn (Yodler House).  The 9-person condos have two two-person rooms and a four-person loft with twin beds.  You will be assigned to the loft or one of the two-person rooms with participants of the same gender.  Many friendships have been formed over the years between roommates.

Can I pay a supplement to have my own room?
When we can accommodate these requests, we are glad to do so for $400.  Some first-time participants think they will go this route, but they nearly always opt for a roommate and find that the experience of sharing a condo or hotel-style room enhances their experience and enjoyment of the trip.

Can I request to room with a friend?
Absolutely. If you have a preferred roommate, just email mammothtrips@ccscsports.org after submitting your payment. We do our best to accommodate all pairing requests.

What amenities are in the condos and rooms?
Condos have full kitchens stocked with basic cookware, dishes, and utensils. Towels and linens are provided. Hotel-style rooms do not have kitchens, but you may request kitchen access through your condo captain if needed.

Do condos have coffee makers or should I bring my own?
Most condos have standard drip coffee makers. If you prefer a specific setup (pour-over, pods), feel free to bring it along.  And the Hotel rooms should have coffee makers as well.

What time do we check out on Sunday?
Please remove your belongings Sunday morning before skiing or riding. You can store luggage on the bus (7:15–8:00am window) or at the Mammoth Mountain Inn front desk.

What is the process for signing up for a trip?
Submit your $419 payment to zpayments@ccscsports.org.  In the Zelle notes, list your full name and the dates for the trip you are joining.  Upon submitting your payment, you will be emailed an online waiver and trip form.  Once you complete the form, you are all set.  You will receive an email on the Monday preceding the trip with additional information about the trip.  Please contact mammothtrips@ccscsports.org if you need to make arrangements to pay via Venmo.

If I sign up for a trip but need to cancel, what should I do?
If your ability to join the trip changes, please email mammothtrips@ccscsports.org to describe the circumstance.  Cancellations more than 31 days prior to a trip are eligible for a refund minus a $20 cancellation fee per person (i.e., a couple cancelling is 2). Refunds for cancellations 31 days or fewer before the trip: only if your spot can be filled with a like person(s) and you also incur a $20 cancellation fee per person or fully forfeit the trip fee if no person(s) can be found.

Are lift tickets included?
Lift tickets are not included in the trip price. Most participants use an Ikon Pass, but you can also purchase lift tickets directly from Mammoth Mountain.

Are rentals included?
Rentals are not included in the trip price. Most participants have their own gear, but you can rent directly from Mammoth Mountain.  When calling Mammoth to Rent, let them know you are staying at Mammoth Mountain Inn and want to pick up your gear from Main Lodge.  It is suggested to rent from Mammoth Mountain due to any issues with your rentals can be repaired or replaced at multiple locations on the mountain.

Is this trip beginner-friendly?
Yes! We always have a mix of experience levels, including first-timers. Each morning at 9:30am, a group meets at the bottom of Chair 1 and naturally divides into smaller groups based on pace and preferred terrain. Beginners should have someone to ski or ride with.

Can I join even if I’m not skiing or snowboarding?
Definitely. Many people come for sightseeing, relaxing at the lodge, using the jacuzzi, exploring the Village, or enjoying Mammoth and club social events.

Does the group meet to ski/ride together?
There’s an informal meetup at 9:30am each morning at the bottom of Chair 1 for anyone who wants to join.

What meals are provided?
Saturday dinner and Sunday’s boxed meal for the bus ride home are provided. Friday’s bus ride includes drinks and snacks. Saturday breakfast and lunch are informal meetups (everyone buys their own food, and some of the club members eat together).

Are there options for dietary restrictions?
We can usually accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free needs. Email mammothtrips@ccscsports.org at least one week before the trip.

How does the Sunday return meal work?
On Friday’s bus ride, we’ll hand out a simple order form. You’ll choose your meal (wrap or salad, protein, toppings) and write your name. Meals are picked up at Pita Pit as we leave Mammoth on Sunday and handed out on the bus.

Does the club organize breakfast and lunch?
We organize informal meetups for breakfast and lunch next to (behind) Tusk in the Main Lodge area (“The Greens”). This meeting spot will be confirmed in the Monday pre-trip email and again during Friday’s onboarding. Participants purchase their own food, and most people coordinate timing through the trip’s WhatsApp group chat.

What should I pack?
In addition to your equipment, clothing for skiing/riding, and personal items for a weekend away, you may wish to bring a swimsuit and sandals. The Mammoth Mountain Inn’s jacuzzis are a popular late-afternoon recreation for trip participants to soothe their muscles and catch up on the day’s adventures with fellow trip goers.

Do I need to bring anything for the condo?
Condos have basic kitchen supplies, but you may want personal snacks, specific breakfast items, or favorite beverages. We provide a “condo pack” that includes: milk and orange juice, hot chocolate and snacks like microwave popcorn and oreos.

Where do I store my skis/snowboards?
Mammoth Mountain Inn offers ski and board storage for hotel guests and the condos have plenty of space inside for storing equipment.

Where do I store my luggage on Sunday morning?
You can store your belongings on the bus or at the Mammoth Mountain Inn’s front desk.  The bus will be parked outside of the hotel from approximately 7:15 – 8:00am so that you can drop off your belongings before heading to the chairlift.  If you opt for storing your belongings at the hotel’s front desk in the morning, you can visit the front desk between 1:30 – 4:00pm to gather your luggage and walk it to where the bus is parked in the Main Lodge parking area.

When does the bus leave on Friday, and when does it return on Sunday?
The bus departs the Skirball park and ride by 6pm and the Golden Valley park and ride by 7pm. We typically arrive at the Mammoth Mountain Inn at 11:30pm.  The bus leaves the resort parking lot by 4:30pm without exception.  The bus typically arrives at Golden Valley at 9:30pm and Skirball shortly after 10pm on Sunday evening.

Where do I meet the bus and is parking available?
Parking is available at both pickup locations (Skirball-Mulholland and Golden Valley Road). Final details (including exact addresses and parking notes) arrive in the Monday-before email.

What is the alcohol policy on the bus?
Alcohol is available on Friday’s bus ride. We do not provide alcohol on Sunday’s return ride and encourage participants not to drink on the way home so that everyone arrives safely.

What happens if I miss the bus?
The bus departs at the scheduled times without exception. If you miss departure, you’ll need to arrange your own transportation and refunds cannot be issued.

Is there Wi-Fi or cell service at the Mammoth Mountain Inn?
Yes. Wi-Fi is available and most carriers have strong reception at the Main Lodge and surrounding area.

Is there a WhatsApp group for the trip?
Yes! Each trip has its own WhatsApp group where we share updates, meetup reminders, photos, and real-time info throughout the weekend. You should be added automatically before the trip. If you aren’t in the group by Friday’s bus ride, let one of the trip leaders on the bus know so we can add you.

Are children allowed on the trip?
Minors may attend with a parent or guardian over 21 years old. Email mammothtrips@ccscsports.org ahead of time so we can confirm rooming arrangements.

What is a condo captain?
A condo captain helps coordinate key cards, distributes the condo pack, and assists with room logistics. They may also help arrange kitchen access for hotel-room guests.
